On my compliance plate it says that i have a HQ Coupe Utility 3/73. I have tried to check the VIN but it is unable to be identified or decoded. Can someone please help.

I have used the VIN and but it is only 6 numbers not 17 and there is a Q in the Vin which the sites will not except. I have tried using the chassis and model numbers as well. But is it heard of a HQ Coupe Utility whic is on the plate. The car has a prem front end, Gts guards V8, trimatic, unsure of paint work, 2 seater. I keep thinking it might be a sandman ute.

Does it have any plates, if so, what do they read ?
From what you've given us it won't be a Sandman, because of the early build date. Sandman production began in 1974.
The GTS guards & Premier front won't be factory, but the V8 & Tri-Matic may be, depending on what the numbers say.

Not quite true DR T. There was at least one HQ ute that left GMH with a Premier front and GTS guards, but it was 3/72 build and its running gear was more special than V8 M40! There was another almost identical mechanical build in 5/72 but I do not know if it was the same cosmetically.
Krissy, you are reading the CHASSIS number, not the VIN. The VIN is on the skinnier of the 3 x ID plates. For a 3/73 V8 HQ ute it will look something like 8N80RCJ3688987Q. The digits that will change will be the N (M or N), the R (D, E, R, S or T), J36 (could be J36, H26, L23 or H76 or close to these) plus the rest of the following digits other than the Q could be anything. |

Yes, fair enough, but that was special build. Fred Average could not go to a dealer & order GTS guards & a Premier front as a factory option. Having said that, many dealers offered that service: i.e. supply, fit & paint those panels to a Belmont, Kingswood or whatever, but that doesn't make it a factory option. Dr Terry. |
