How much can you spend?

A Supra box is stronger and still a 5 speeder. Otherwise a Muncie or T10 are stronger 4 speeders.

A Tremec is also a better option.

If you switch to an auto a T400 with a cooler is good for towing but only 3 speeds and sucks power out of the engine. I think the stronger auto box with lock up convertor is a TL80?

You only have to be in front at the end of the race.

T5 is an option. I've got one behind a 304 and it's still going strong.

There was a Tremec 5 speed based on a Toploader and had three selector positions, there was also a TKO version which was heavier duty.

There are plenty of different T5s, if its out of a Commodore make sure its a V8 one as these were also put behind the 179 (2850) sixes in VHs.

Muncies are a good box, I had one in my L34, the selector arms can get jammed though.
