Hi all,

What i thought would be an relatively straight forward process has me stumped...

I'm trying to line up the doors (working on right side from rear passenger first).
The problem is that while both driver and rear passenger line up at the top with the rear quarter panel, but its about 10-12mm out at the bottom all the way along.
There is no spacer washers, just the bolts to the body on both upper and lower bolts.
Whats the trick on this one?

Have you completed any repairs to the sill or rear quater panel at all?
If so, did you have the doors in place to check alignment as you progressed?

Just loosen the bolts and move the doors until the gaps are good, starting from the rear doors.

There should be adjustment at both points. The door will be adjustable on the hinges & the hinges will be adjustable where they mount to the body.

With all bolts loose the door will naturally move up or down.The bolts into the pillar will allow the door to move nearer or further away from the body. ie with the door fully open loosen the bolts that screw into the door, you will note the lock edge of the door will drop down. If you now tighten those same bolts then close the door you will note the hinge edge of the door is now further from the pillar. Do the reverse to move the door closer to the pillar. That may help a little....Jack

New hinges or repair kits will not give you any more adjustment up or down, in or out or back and forward. If you think the hinges are suspect. As a simple test open the door enough to get your hand underneath at the bottom rear corner. By lifting this corner up you will get an idea of the condition. I suggest spending some time exploring the adjustment until you get the jist of it. Don't worry You are not alone being baffled by door adjustment. Once you work it out you will see it's really not that difficult. If the car is painted and you're concerned about damaging the paint maybe best find another wreck somewhere to practice on before working on the project car. If you have the same situation you had back when you first started this thread. That is the bottom edge of the door sitting out 10 mm. and the hinge had not been off the door. TRY THIS. With the door fully open 1st loosen off the bottom hinge bolts at the pillar. As you loosen the bolts you may note the door drop and the bottom of the door move closer to the car. If it does not move, while still holding the door FULLY open and with your hand or an assistant supporting the lower corner of the door, at the lock edge. Starting with the lowest bolt 1st CAREFULLY loosen off the bolts on the top hinge one at a time UNTIL you notice the bottom hinge move and the bottom of the door move closer to the car. Tighten a top and bottom hinge bolt. Carefully close the door. The bottom edge that was sitting out should now have moved in some. NOWS the time to check how much adjustment in or out you need. You'll find Lifting or lowering that corner of the door with the pillar bolts loose on the bottom hinge will allow the bottom of the door to move in or out. Likewise lifting or lowering with the top hinge pillar bolts loose allows adjustment in or out for the top of the door. If you were to loosen the top and bottom hinge bolts at the same time that would allow the door to move up and down as well as in and out. If you were to loosen the bolts into the door rather than the pillar this will give you adjustment forward and back and/or up and down at the lock edge of the door. And of course there are all the many possible variations. Try it in steps rather than all at once....best of luck.....Jack
