seeing how cars like the GTHO and early Monaro have gone to such values, when 30 years ago you could not give them away, what do people think are the cars built in the last 20 years which are the sleepers that will be worth a packet in say 10 years time?
i suggest one would be the Capri convertible, you can buy them now for 500 to 1000 bucks, then there is the series of 2 door Monaros , which are not as cheap but will be, then there is little turbo pocket rockets like the daihatsus, suzukis, etc.

You are just pulling our leg aren't you? Just trying to get a rise out of someone because you are bored and have nothing to do?

Capri convertible, what a lemon that was. Utter garbage and ugly as sin. Daihatsus, Suzukis etc Jap crap, who gives a toss. Don't even get me started.

VB SL/E 5.0 Manual, VH SS Manual in White, VL Calais Turbo, VL Calais wagon, VN SS Manual in Atlas Grey, Monaro V2 CV6.

I do not think it has to do with rarity, but more desirability.

For that to occur it must be a car that people thought was the a great car to have at a point in time and then usually the top upper levels or hero car.

So in the VN, any HSV, or SS and maybe even the V8 Calais. The atlas grey I agree will be the pick. (saw a nice restored one the other day)

VB 5.0 litre SL/E are already worth a bit, you missed the boat on that one.

V2 in Devil or Black. (CV6 will be come desirable just because of the shape, like a base HK is worth lots more that a Kingswood sedan)

VT SS in tiger

VL BT1, just because so many think they are the ducks nuts

Early clubsports

Not sure about the Ford products, but agree that Capri convertiblewill not just because they are not deirable, do not hear people saying that they would love to own one. (inverted boat, water on the inside)

Warren , Whats your opinion on the HQ SS as a future collectable/investment as such? I was going to sell mine last year but the guy was transferred interstate with his job so it fell through, should I finish the resto and reap future rewards or sell it as is for less ( I am not desperate to sell) is there enough desirability for these cars to keep going up in value?

My view is that the HK to HZ prices have stablised due to current economic times. I also think that by the time we come out of it that these cars will be less desirable as far as supply and demand is concerned. I think the HQ SS will have a place in history and to some extent be a desirable car. To the value well????

There is a lot of effort in restoring a car, and to do so just to sell it when finished takes a lot for someone to do. Personally I rejected buying an EJ to restore to drive to work, because I knew that about the time I would finish it I would be ready to buy my CV8, therefore selling the EJ. My daughter's boyfriend purchased it and we did it up togehter and he still drives it, do not think he will sell it for a long time.

Just like financial advisers, I can be wrong, just my opinion on past events and trends with prices. Those that own their cars for the fun of it do not mind if prices rise and fall as they get more pleasure from owning and driving. (I drive my CV8Z to work each day, it is devaluing because of that, but I get to drive a CV8Z to work each day. For what I paid for it I could have purchased a new SV6 and no one would care that it is devalueing at the same or higher rate, or that I drive it to work each day, but it would not be a CV8Z) If you want to see how well you can restore the SS then taking a loss on it is not a worry. Restoring cars to make money has always been a bit of a gamble.

I think the Alpine white VN SS will be worth more than the Atlas grey, there seems to be a hell of alot of grey & even red SS's compaired to the white ones...

I shall have to brew on that on that one I have owned it for 12 years. The white VN SS was probably the least amount built from what I remember coming down the production line at Elizabeth as most seem to be red or grey.I liked the white ones best and grey second.

hktg its good to see you are prepared to allow other people to have an opinion before you lay into them.
I did not say you had to like the cars, just what you thought enough people would like to have it become a collectable.
As for ugly, that is surely one of the greatest furphys. the 57 chev looks good to me, the fb/ek holden are probably the ugliest cars holden has built as well as being the most awful to drive and gutless, but that is my opinion.
that does not stop them being collectable, as is the the Edsel now or the citroen 2cv.
but in the last 20 years there are not many to choose from.

I wasn't laying into you John Perth, just some of the garbage cars you mentioned. I thought they were very odd examples of possible collectible cars. In fact so odd that i thought you were only half serious in posting it and was expecting a rise out of someone. My apologies if I have upset you.

I'm entitled to an opinion as is everybody else. To be honest, I hope they crush every last example of those Capri's. Then we can forget they were made here in Australia. As for Japanese cars, pfft, who gives. Crush the lot. I would take great joy in knowing that every can of coke I crack open has been recycled from a frickin Silvia.

I would have hoped the HQ Statesman would have been considered a collectible.
As Warren suggests HK - HZ seem to have bottomed out due to a number of things.
As it happens, I'm now considering selling my old girl, ("thought I would never say that") and investing in property.
Just don't have a lot of confidence in the market at the moment, and it doesn't look that great anytime soon.

I just found this http://www.carsales.com....&VNAV=A&eapi=2&__N=1216 1246 1247 1252 1282 4294965678 4294965857&silo=Stock&Range=Year:2004,2011&sort=LastUpdate on carsales, surely it would have to be collectable, shame its an auto.

Interesting colour ,when I worked at HBD all cv8Z`s came through to get a sunroof fitted and were painted Fusion in colour. The car in the advert has no sunroof I have some doubt that its an original cv8Z.

Didn't the CV8Z have a special dash facia/backing other than the standard Monaro one?
Nice colour that K-POW.

It was probably an example of a test colour, as K-pow didn't come out until a few years after that.
I know of Devil Yellow VT sedans (pre-dating it's use on the V2), and Turismo VX sedans (pre-dating it's use on the VZ) as well as a number of other test colours they did to gauge public reaction before putting them in production.
Cheers,

Mick

There are CV8Z painted in Morpheus, K Pow, Smick. None of which have a sunroof.

There are three know CV8s in Fusion, these also do not have sunroof, have all black trim and blue dash. (I saw them all on car sales 2 years ago, two at the same time) I have seen the VIN on two of them and they are 2 cars appart, I bet the car inbetween is the one I saw but not the VIN.

CV8Z are different to CV8s in the following:

Special embossed wheels
Fusion paint option (was to be Fusion or black only, Turismo and Devil added before release)
Sunroof
Fusion trim in Black and Fusion cars
CV8Z mats
Black bonnet scoops
Tinted tail lights

I think there are as many VZ CV8 as there are CV8Zs.

I have always wondered about the WB Statesman - when Holden announced they were to stop production of the WB, apparently values held well, so I hear. But that was then; now, it seems that $5k buys you a good example; $10k a mint one.

I don't care really, my WB isn't going anywhere, I hope my 5 year-old son might want it when he is old enough.

But if he wanted to sell it, I don't see the WB appreciating in value much, I wonder if the Cadillac styling works against it, although (arguably) it was the best of the HQ-WB series to drive, especially in Brock Magnum form.

If the Brock Magnum was anything like the Brock Calais in VK Series, I wouldn't argue with you if performance was the governing factor.

WB to me - and I'm not knocking the series, was dull looking from the rear, and had moved into the straight line box look. With 8 - 10 yrs on from the release of HQ series, one might have thought there would have been some more technological advancements than were given. With all the pollution equipment to the engine, it had the least Horsepower of any 308 Statesman at 126kw. I think from memory it featured a slightly shorter but taller body over HZ, which might have given more headroom, but did nothing against the sleek look of the HZ and those models before.
The only great thing that came from the WB, was the four wheel disc's, because pulling up a Statesman especially a 350 cu" model on a drum rear end can take some effort.
My opinion only, and each to their own
