Hi, just wondering if anyone can help me I have a red motor 12 port head, looks like a blue motor 12 port head but its not as all the water jackets are red motor. There are no casting numbers on the head. I wanted to know who made these heads as every engine reconditioner I have seen have never seen a head like this, and want to know what it would be worth.
Thanks Trevor

No they haven't been welded or drilled. I have put a blue motor manifold gasket on the head and all the stud holes didn't line up, but they lined up when I put a red motor gasket on it, but all the inlets don't get covered by the gasket as they are raised like blue motor. This is definately red motor 12 port. I have a set of tripple su carbies on a speco manifold to suit this head. I tried to bolt these on a blue motor head but the bolt holes would not line up on blue motor studs.

Maybe it is a Red motor head, with dividers.

Or it is a recast new Yella Terra Red motor head.

Some photo's may help

i may have seen this before. when i worked at holden dealer wayne hill way back when ,a vb commodore came into the workshop driven by the warranty guy from gmh, he was there to oversee the destruction of the warranty claim parts from the lock up. everyone in the workshop could see the car was a bit different in the styling areas and one of the boys got a screwdriver and opened the bonnet of the locked car. it was a prototype for the vc blue motor.we all had a good look and saw the 2 barell carb and electronic ignition. we all thought at the time why change something that works. kel

It's definitely not blue or black, that's for sure.

My only suggestion is what Peter came up with further up, that it's a Yella Terra one.
Cheers,

Mick

Agree, looks like a 12 port conversison or a specially cast head. Does it still have cast numbers on it, or are they ground off? Doesn't look like it saw recent 12 port usage though (ie triple twin choke carbs) as the dividers are now knife edged.

I think it has noting to do with a red head at all.
It's just a blue and a black head.
Give use the numbers on the heads & casting dates.
I think he is trying to fool us with the bottom one that looks like a red.

I would like a photo of it showing the ports side and the combustion chamber.
I say it's bull and it is a red head img841 on top, look at not only the chamber but the side the head is a real 100% red motor head.

I cannot offer info as to what the head is, but I do know that there was a fellow in Victoria advertising cross flow heads for red motors in auto action in the 70s. I have a vague memory of a 12 port head also.

the head may have come off a HQ holden racer as i know a couple of the old boys that raced them and they done a lot of mod work to the engines without getting caught as they were meant to be stock to pass strict regulations to be able to race..could have been cast of an original head then passed off as a standard head. but as you have pointed out "everything is not what it seems" as in value try your luck on evilbay you just never know how much you might get
why drink & drive when you can drift & slide
