Hi I recently rebuilt my 350 chevy and when taking it for a drive I have a lound ticking sound like a lifter but have adjusted and re adjusted the tappets and all is fine till I take it for a drive then the sound starts again. I am thinking it may be a lifter but as they are brand new am unsure any ideas or thoughts would be apreciated.

how's the oil pressure?, maybe a dodgey lifter?
how's the timing, what fuel you using (premium or standard) could it be pinging???

The other one I find is that the headers on mine often come loose, particularly on number 7 and number 8 cylinders.
About once every couple of months they need retightening, and when loose make a ticking, chuffing kind of sound. |

Mkse sure the cam that drives the points in the dizzy is lubricated too. These can tick. |
