I finally have my 355 stroker up and running. I have a problem with my ignition, where when i turn the key off, the moter sort of dies, but keeps lumping over for a few seconds until it chokes itself, backfires out the carbie and then completely stops.

Has this got anything to do with the timing or does it sound like it is still somehow recieving a small amount of power once the key is switched off causing it to still want to fire but not enough power to let it run?

Any help is appreciated.

I use to have that happen to a Sigma I once had.

Pre ignition if I remember rightly. Has something to do with your timing.

Don't take what I say as gospel, but I think that is what the issue is.

As HQ said pre ignition and it can crack the rings then you get blowby.
Has she got high KM.
Cause, to much Carbon build up.

Running on or dieseling. I think quadrates have a anti dieseling solenoid to help prevent this also. Can someone confirm this, or is that incorrect? My WB does the same thing, 253 with quadrajet.

When the diesel solenoid is energized (Ignition on) you adjust it with a small spanner (screw it in or out) for your correct rpm idle.

When Ignition turned off it retracts, and what was the original idle screw is now adjusted to stop the butterflies from wedging shut in the barrel. This chokes the airflow and stops the lean idle mixture from pre igniting and causing run on.

Its a fresh 355 with less then an hour run in time. It has a 750 barry grant carby, mech secondaries, running 30deg advance timing.

My thoughts are that it is still getting a spark once the ignition is switched off so it lumps over until the left over fuel is burnt out and then backfires and dies?

I guess i could check to see if there is any voltage sitting at the coil when the ignition is off.

What do you mean by 'dieseling'

Cheers

Dieseling is what it is doing. Its running without any ignition to make a spark, like a diesel motor.
There is something still hot enough inside your combustion chamber to ignite the fuel vapour that is in the carb/manifold. The way the manufacturer stops this is with a anti dieseling solenoid on a quadrajet, but if the carb is not set up correctly it can happen as well. You have to stick my wb in gear and stall it sometimes to stop it.
