Hi all, does anyone know anything about the monaro register at www.monaro.com.au I am not sure if it is a current website or if it just still comes up in a google search cause its been there for years. My main reson for asking is , should you give your car details to this website for the preservation of all monaro history and the good of all monaro for now and forever etc etc etc, bla bla bla. Does this just create an oppatunity for someone to steal your id numbers or something like that.

I've seen these types of sites before, but not for cars. If enough people register, they then become the authority in their field. They then go on to charge a very large fee for the rights to register, and for searching for information to confirm the validity of what you wish to purchase.

The Holden Monaro Register does exist, but not really via monaro.com.au anymore. It is run (and has always been run) by Ben Stewart whom almost anyone into Monaros would at least know of. Your ID once given to Ben goes nowhere, and it is not recorded against any person's name. It is simply used for historical or research purposes. I keep a "register" of sorts (I call it a database) of HQ-HZ Sandmans and other HQ-HZ utes and vans, which is in the same format as Ben's (as he gave me the first 15 or so Sandman ID he had recorded over the years off cars in wreckers), and now that this database has reached about 700 or so vehicles I can tell you it has unlocked a lot of information about breakpoints of change in colour, trim, GVW, diff ratios etc. Plus it allows me to readily pick ID plates which don't belong together (like HK-HG, the majority of HJ-HZ Sandmans have no number correlation between any of the 3 x ID plates).

Correct. Monaro.com.au (Perry) used to just be a forwarding agent. He would collect details and then forward them to Ben for addition to the register.

The register is still alive and strong. He is even collecting V2 Monaro data now.

Definitely worth having your data on the register. Saved my bacon when my ID's got stolen. I knew the body number and not much else. I was able to contact Ben and get all my numbers back and begin the search for my ID's. Plus more importantly give the numbers to the Police.

The collection of this data is used to crack codes, most of which have been done as well as finding breaks in production runs etc.

All very valuable information in building a big Monaro picture of hows things were back in the day.

If you want to get your ID details to Ben, best bet is to send it to myself or Durwin and it can be forwarded to Ben. I won't publish Ben's contact details online but with his permission I can give it privately. If anything particularly interesting comes back (like it is the earliest, or latest recorded) then Ben will comment back.
It is important to know that that no-one other than Ben has ready access to the data so no-one can use it for fraudulent purposes. Statistical data gleaned from the records is readily shared (if available) like how many HK's are recorded etc. But not actual vehicle identities. I do the same thing for Sandmans.

A similar database is collected for EJ and EH Holdens by the EH car club of Victoria at www.ehholden.com.au

The database only has the chassis number, original rego if known, and body plate info. No personal details at all. The same information you can collect at a car show when a car has the bonnet up.

As Stated above the Monaro registry still exists but Ben is also interested in collecting the other non Monaro details that he can come across as well.

There is also a HQ database that is being put together by Leroy and myself that now has around 2000 HQ's
on it.
Leroy's version of this database also includes the HJ-HZ models as well.
There is also a HR database that we have started with a mere 70 cars on it so far and then
there is also a HQ SS database/registry which I am also part of that now has 237 cars on it.
All of these databases have been sent to Ben Stewart as well.

The FB EK forum also has a database for those models as well.
Cheers Paul.

I have been keeping information from every HK HT HG Holden I recycle for reference purposes too. I keep the tags, cut out the firewall number and record as many of the date codes from the components as I can. Even the lock barrel numbers.

I am glad to see I am not the only one that does that as well.
Do you also take note of the paint dots etc on the cars.

If you have not already been in contact with Ben I am sure he would be greatly interested in what details you have collected so far.
Cheers Paul.

While we are talking about registers. I am collecting all the data I can on HSV Coupe4's.

Managed to score a list of every one ever built, but it does not match up build number to VIN number. So I am trying to find them all again to match the build numbers with VIN's. Have an entire hard drive dedicated to this info.

Have found some interesting stuff so far. There are only 3 'fully loaded' Coupe4's that have sun roof, tyre pressure monitor and Sat Nav.

Plus we have found 3 build # 3's.

HSV certainly did not give a toss about numbering. The 3rd car built is in the high 20's on the ID plate.

But still need to find more cars to crack some of these codes.

So if you know of any, or see one around, please get the build # and VIN number for me.

Thanks

I have collected build sheets from HK throught to VN, when they changed to the multi sheet formatt.

I have managed to get a small number of V2 sheets (Lumina ss coupe, CV8 and CV6 series I) and would not mind seeing the 2005 coupe ones that you have cloudy. BTW was the pilot CV8Z a Fusion CV8 with blue dash, black trim, no sunroof?

I have found three fusion CV8s, they have the blue dash, body coloured bonnet scoops, blue dash, no sunroof and all black trim.

I have the PSN of L342328 for one of these.

The earliest CV8Z I have found is L482649
