Looking at fitting a 355 stroker to a HT sedan. Need to know if anyone has fitted a set of extractors to a VN headed 308 into a HT/K/G, what brand is suitable, any difficulties or any alterations needed?

Cheers, Gas69

CAE do them as a bolt in kit made specifically for the combination you choose. look at their site to see.

CH114 with 1-3/4" primaries would suit nicely.

1.75" is too big in a 4 into 1 for most 3.48" holdens

1.625" is much betterer but since i dont think anyone makes one, youre stuck with whats OTS.

the primary pipe is basically a loooong exhaust port, vn heads have a port exit much more suited to the smaller tube, go too big and the flow is all kinds of messed up, especially at part throttle and lower rpms where most normal cars spend most of their time.

I wouldnt fit 1.75" 4 into 1 pipes to any but the nastiest holden v8's

That's interesting. I'm running 1-5/8" primaries on my 355 and my tuner insists he could get more power from 1-3/4". I suppose everyone has their own ideas. I'm sticking with the ones I have as the work better in the confined space I have.

peak hp, sure.

average hp, drivability, less reversion at low throttle percentages and cleaner chambers etc, not sure about that.

if youre racing with a big convertor and heaps of rpm, the bigger pipes are fine.

who's your tuner? bear in mind he is probably smarter than me :D

its all about gas velocity in the rpm range you need the engine to work in...

Thanks guys for your responses so far. Scott i have checked castles website and have also found them to be the only supplier suitable for this combination, but with more people swapping to this combination I was wondering if there were any options other than a custom fabricated set. I also need to know whether anyone has fitted the castle headers into a HT/K/G and if they have encountered any unforeseen problems. Phill, we are transplanting the engine from a VS commodore running 1 7/8 inch pacemakers, it ran 12.04@118mph running a injected setup and a standard 5speed getrag. The engine will be converted back to a carbie setup in the HT holden, any further advice will be gratly appreciated.

a fair while ago i sold a 308 and pipes etc from my car to a mate with a hk ute.

the pipes were old school pre-efi paceys, 4 into 1, and a little massage with hammer and heat got the pipes in his car fine, the way i figure it absolute worst case you might have to cut and alter one pipe but it shouldnt be a big deal to get hq/hz efi headed pipes into your car.
