There are advantages to both types. Which one?
In a mild 202 with no oil use or oil burning problems. |

the only reason i can see to use a HV pump is if the standard pump cant keep up due to engine wear or (deliberate)loose clearances etc etc. once the galleries are full and the clearances are dictating the "leakage" rate, any additional pump capacity is bled off via the pressure bypass and essentially "wasted" so if the standard pump is keeping up with demand, no need for any more. Is there any brands to steer clear of that have had low reliability or known to have failures? Brands to recommend. |

crane cams don't recommend h.igh pressure pumps for street engines as they tend to wash out the material in the bearings and cause failure.

HV oil pumps harder on your bearings....as per Johnperth comment. golden rule of 10 PSI for every 1000 rpm. STD is fine for most street applications Peter, i assume you are talking holden 6? the JP oil pumps (JP mellings i think - nothing to do with JP Xu-1) seem to have a proven record...
