Hi there,

what direction should the interior window winder handles on the KTG coupe be when closed, ie pointing up at 10 o'clock or down at 8 o'clock?

Greetings, I think you will find that they are actually supposed to be in the horizontal position in terms of alignment with the knobs towards the front of the vehicle. This way the handles also are horizontal when in the fully down position. Pre-delivery process called for all to be aligned the same.

Can we assume that 10 o'clock applies to all HKTG models?

That is 10 o'clock on the drivers side and 2 o'clock on the passengers side.

Personally I have done most window winders 10:30 o'clock on the front driver and 7:30 o'clock on the rear driver on thousands of vehicles over the last 22 years. It is the most common position for most cars

10-10.30, 7-7.30, with play in the regulator there's noting in it is there.

the idea of 10 oclock RH & 2 oclock LH is so when all th way up or down, your leg wont be rubbing on th handle. (thats how i was told to do all in early 80's

I agree with GIT on this, Ben showed me a service letter years ago about the allignment of window winders and it stated horizontal with knob forward.

Greetings, I can't see how with power windows, but if I had manual windows I would also display the GMH literature that shows them aligned horizontal. What would you bring as proof of your way?

It amazes me the amount of 'secret' Holden literature out there that only seems to of been accessed by two or three regular forum posters on here. I think it's time this so called literature that 'gurus' are referencing, to shoot us blokes down that live, drive and own the said vehicles, need to post the proof for all to see.

You have proved to us that you have very little in the way of factual GMH material in connection with these cars. I find that a little unusual as I would have imagined someone with your knowledge to have a large library of reference material to call on from time to time when the brain gets foggy. Nobody can have a perfect memory for things like this so we need books to call on. Dr Terry obviously has as do several other people on here.

HG is my pet and as a result of collecting I have also got some HK and HT stuff. On HG though, here is what I have to refer to and use.
HG owners manuals (three different ones)
HG ordering procedure (two different ones)
HG selling manual
HG features book
HG parts catalogue (and the 46 pages of ammendment bulletins)
HG shop manual supplement (4 pages)
HG broadcast sheets (44 different types of cars)
HG dealer service bulletins
HG dealer service letters
HG accessories bulletins
HG parts instruction drawings (accessories)

and also
HT engineering technical specifications
HK engineering technical specifications

All this stuff was found by google and on ebay from blokes such as Daryl (Spy v Spy), James (Mr ACDELCO), Doug (monaro man), Darryl (Cool McCool) and others. I have been buying for many years but regret missing out on a book of instruction drawings that must have had hundreds in it.

I do actually own and drive a vehicle I have all this stuff for. I look at other vehicles as well.

Presenting correct factual information is not shooting you down as you imply. If you give information that is not correct there is sure to be someone to fix it. As for posting the proof as you request in the form of pictures of it there is every chance people will dispute it as being correct because they have seen a car that does not comply. You can't win either way.

The window winder handle is an example of what is supposed to be the case in cars. But how many original cars would be around that have never had a handle removed and replaced? In this situation we must rely on factory documentation to go back to what was supposed to be correct in the day.

I have the greatest respect for Dr Terry and as such my tag is in honour of him - git means guru in training in case you hadn't worked that out.

Well said git, although I now feel like I've been placed on a pedestal.

I also enjoyed the ambiguity of not shooting down guys on the forum, but then being labelled a 'straight shooter'.

I am the same with my collection, I don't believe that I've ever kept any of it secret. As a matter of fact my main problem is not being computer-literate enough to post pictures of any page or photo that I'm referring to. I've collected mine over many years; auctions, swap meets, ebay etc. etc. more of a hobby really. I am lucky enough also to have a near photographic memory of all the various cars that I've worked on over the last forty years.

I enjoy helping guys out on the forum & at no time try to be a smart @rse.

In regards to the window winder thing, I think the 9 o'clock-3 0'clock (horizontal) position sounds more logical, especially if the position remains the same fully down & fully up. I don't profess to know which way is correct, but if you have factory documentation, that is hard to refute.

I couldn't really give a toss what books you have git. I have 40+ original cars in my shed. They'll tell me a lot more than your books.

I never used the o'clock exactly. I just went forward facing. 45 degrees up on the front, and 45 degrees down on the rear. It was the most common position.
