I had this with a VP. Water would mostly collect in the spare wheel well and in the corresponding position on the driver's side.
It turned out to be buggered seals under the fixed windows in the side of the car next to the rear doors. They were a kind of foam type rubber rather than a solid rubber seal like on doors or around windscreens.
I was told at the time that it is a very common issue with the VP VS Commodores as the seal dries out with age and literally falls apart.

As posted above, the rear 1/4 windows are the main problem with these models. Pull them out (they are only held in with a series of nuts) and apply non-hardening windscreen mastic, then refit them.
If this doesn't cure it, then carefully check the seams at the top corners of the boot opening (below the rear glass corners) as these can often look OK, but be slightly lifted (from rust) allowing water in.
I've also seen a couple where the metal lip the boot rubber sits on had rusted away undetected under the rubber, and on my own VS2 Calais they didn't put enough urethane on the D-pillar trim caps (between the pillar & the 1/4 panel) which let water into the boot. |
Cheers,
