Biggest
I recall seeing somewhere a HQ LS Monaro which I think was claimed to have been factory built with a 400 cubic inch (Pontiac?) motor for a holden executive - maybe just another one of those claims tho

Leo can't remember a 400 in that car, I asked him about it when I was in Melbourne for State of Origin 1. That doesn't mean it didn't though, just that he cannot remember it. There were apparantly 2 x HQ's with 400 Chevs in them though, but neither were sold to be registered with a 400. The Suburban had a 6.5L V8 in it. |

Well I guess if the fellow himself can't recall it being so, chances are it probably wasn't altho I seem to remember it being claimed that there were documents to prove it so....
Forgot all about the Suburban but then that reminded me of the w427 Commodores - but maybe they don't count if HSV put the motors in them.

Squeak327. I think we may have to settle one thing before we go on with this question any further. That is. IS a HSV a HOLDEN or NOT. After all they are a HOLDEN special Vehicle. if you want to bye one you go to the HOLDEN dealer. OR do we start at the other end and ask When is a HOLDEN not a HOLDEN. Could get a bit complicated....best regards....Jack

Magnificent car isn't it? I remember seeing it at the 2010 Monaro Nats. Blew me away. I don't think that text is quite correct about the customised cars either. I'm sure Leo did more HQ's than quoted, the 350Z was one of them. |

We can narrow it down a bit and at the same time broaden it and ask for the biggest and smallest engine in any standard production "motor vehicle" ASSEMBLED BY GMH, not necessarily in the same make or model, ANY Vehicle with OR without Holden badge. That should just about exclude anything before the 48215 ( FX) though, well I think so. but could now include many badges, chevs, bedfords. vauxhauls etc etc and not necessarily GM or deliverd in Australia either and not just cars. At the same time that excludes one offs, they are just going to cause debate and argument forever......... Jack

If you go back to the original question, GMH Factory assembled, then surely it would be the 1st HB Torana (1.1 or 1.2 litre, not sure which)and the VE. (6.0 Lt)
Colin.

You'd think that would be correct, 1.2L HB-LJ. Maybe then followed by the 1.4L Nova. |

Colt, You're probably getting close but that's 1948 This is not really fair for you young blokes OH unless you're good in the research department. What about before 1948 then ? Hinted at earlier. GMH really began in early 1931, I think it was and were very involved in the war effort and were also into aircraft, boat, truck and car engine assembly Could there have been some bigger and smaller ones when you add them in ?....Jack
