Looking at buying a HK Premier with factory fitted opel 4 speed 186s. The question is, it has bucket seat and short console. Should it have the full lenght console being a factory 4 speed with buckets ?

That would depend on the build date, early 4 speed cars were floor shift only, console shift came out later, just before or at Monaro release.

Normally you couldn't get a seat separator with 4spd on a HK-HG passenger vehicle, it should be console shift with buckets or stick shift with a bench seat. This is how HG was anyway, I imagine HK would be the same. My guess is either the car was a D55 or XS6 (buckets) optioned car with seat separator and 3spd and it has been converted to 4spd OR it was a bench seat and 4spd and someone has fited buckets and seat separator OR the console has been removed and replaced with a seat separator.

So the full lenght console wasn't released until close to the Monaro release on the rest of the HK range? It appears to be geniune and has the full intrument cluster as on GTS etc. Other HK Premier 4 speeds I have seen in the past had the full lenght console hence my confusion.

I remember several pre-Monaro HKs that were fully optioned with 4-sp, buckets, seat separator, sports instruments etc.

Before the long console was introduced this is the way bucket-seated 4-sp cars were sold.

Thankyou for the advice fellas. I will have good look underneath to be certain but its odds on its geniune as its one family from new and they tell me its original though it lost its original engine block years ago, still has the headers and carbie though.

Yes, same shifter. We used to call them a 'flat stick' 4-speed.

So you could buy a HK passenger vehicle with buckets, seat separator and 4spd? This was an impossible combination in HG-WB, they must have decided once the console was available mid 1968 to delete the combination.

HK1837 you might be interested to see this picture - its from a reproduction of an HK Brochure in a book I have. Sorry about the quality of the image - the original is very small.

The reason this may not have a short console is at First Kingswood with buckets did not get the short console, only Premier, then when Monaro released it was available.

Lost of funny things happened in HK.

With the cut out in the floor for the HK 4 speed ( non console) shifter, should it still have the raised box area( mounting assembly)on the trans tunnel?

I can't why it was an "impossible combination" in HG, everything will fit. Or are you saying they didn't make it available.

I remember seeing an a very original HT Belmont several years ago which had a flat stick 4-sp Opel & it had a plain boot on the floor in similar fashion to an HR set-up, just a bit more square. It didn't have the boxlike thing as pictured above.

AFAIK you couldn't order buckets and 4spd with seat separator in HG-HZ passenger vehicles, console shift was mandatory with buckets. If the console wasn't available until Monaro or Brougham release the picture above is how I would have expected an M20 HK with A50 (fixed back buckets) or XS6 (reclining buckets) to be ie no D55 seat separator. After that I'd expect it to be as per HG-HZ. As far as I am aware the only place you could get buckets with 4spd and not console shift was commercials, and only after Monaro/Brougham release.

It is a Pagewood built Premier, built pre Monaro. As a rough guess i'd say March-April build. It is the 3017th HK Premier sedan. 1163 is Inca Gold, and 10R is black trim, can't remember what the R means.

In HK late, when ordering Buckets you had either:
D55
M11
M21 or M22 without D55

So if you ordered M20 floor shift with buckets, D55 was mandatory. Alternatively you could order M11 for console shift.
