As the title suggests can anyone tell me if the a specific vin plate can be matched to a body number. Dont worry nothing dodgey going on I just want to know if the long skinny tag on a mates car matches its body number thanks Ron

BODY number is on the BODY plate, but on a HK it never matches the PSN (last bit of the VIN number on the VIN tag). Neither match the chassis number on the firewall. However they all belong together as a set, and they are easily picked as not belonging together by other vehicles around them. |

I may be a bit too naive here, but what the issue with posting ID numbers? My memory is pretty good but I don't memorise VIN, engine & chassis for pleasure. For goodness sake, what is the worst thing that will happen if someone posts a few ID numbers. Will the sky fall in? I firmly believe that you will gain more by sharing information, rather then keeping it secret. Dr Terry. |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

PM them to me if you are worried and i'll pass them onto Ben Stewart. No-one can "verify" HK-HG numbers, but you'll at least know if they don't belong together. |

I think some people are scared that their numbers will turn up on fake ID tags somewhere. We all know how easy it is to get a fake set whipped up that are pretty close to perfect. so if these people are looking for some numbers to make up a set to be 'matching' they can get em from the forums.
Which I think is why some people are scared to post the numbers online.

that is exactly why and the vin in question starts with 81837 so you can understand the paranoia

I agree there is paranoia, but why (unless they were totally stupid) would someone copy an existing car? Surely they'd take the punt and just adjust the numbers a few either way and hopefully end up with unique numbers? |

agreed totally , if i was going to get a set made , why oh why would i use a number set that is on the net so in fact i believe , by posting my 81837 numbers up on here not long ago will protect it form being copied , as a accurate google search will show the listing
