Greetings from South West Sydney

Recently purchased a HK GTS 327 and would like to narrow down the build date.

Down on the bottom of the steering box the letters 13DO appear to be stamped - is this the right place to check?

Any help appreciated, Thanks Phillip Wilson

Would not be original to that car - 13 D 0 means 13 April 1970.

Look for a stencilled date on bottom of steering column (white paint)and also for a stamped date on outrigger on front crossmember and go from there

Thanks

Re the steering column - do you mean inside the car? and for the X member - looking from underneath from the rear of the car to the front, which side should it be on?

Steering column - view from engine bay, on the end just behind the steering coupling.

Cross member - it is usually on the passenger side, vertical face, just forward of the elongated hole in the outrigger. If the car still has its splash pans on, you will have to remove in order to see it.

PM me the vehicle's details and i'll get a close build date estimate from the Monaro guru for you.

The date codes on the various components, if original, will give an indication of build date.

The better option though in the first instance, is to take up HK1837s offer and PM him the tag numbers the chassis number and the engine number. Your numbers can then be cross - checked against other cars on the Monaro Register to determine build estimate.

Once you have that, if your intention is then to get it as close as possible to original, you can then go looking for all the date codes on the car and see what, if anything, you might need to change.

Thanks I have sent details to HK1837 already - probably not possible to get it all original but I am going to try and get it close without being too anal!
I really want to drive it and listen to the secondaries open - well that's what I'd planned - not keep it hidden.

Just remembered - had the diff cover off - crown wheel has 9 68 as well as the ratio stamped on it.
Would that signify a diff build date of Sep1968 ?

If Ben gave you an estimate, then it'll be pretty close. 9/68 will be correct for the crownwheel. It should have a date code on the housing too.

^^^^ 3 October 1970 & if correct then must have been changed also - does the front end have the HK steel bushes in the wishbone pivot points or the later HT HG rubber bushings?. If it is the K type there will be grease nipples at each of those points. If the latter, bolt head washer and rubber bush

Well......

Thanks to Byron it has been confirmed the cars is an early Feb 69 build - the engine and the tags and the body are all correct but it seems it has had a later HT or so front Cross member installed along with wrong date steering box - the code should be around 23A9 and the Xmember similar, I guess there's plenty of em layin around???

Cheers.

I have a friend who has a Sept build car and apart from the driveline, most of the codes are H - steering column, steering box, cross member, axle tubes, shock absorbers.

The engine, gearbox and diff are all much further away from build date than that tho - block is D, gearbox B, heads B - but from what I understand that is normal for chev powered cars, presumably because they had to bring the stuff in in batches.
