Hi, Today while driving my 2006 WM Statesman the ABS fault and Electronic Stability Control errors came up together. I didn't really notice any difference in the way the car performed. Managed to get rid of the two messages using the Trip button but I can't get rid of the RED ABS warning light.
Someone suggested it could be a sensor on the wheel(s) or the fact that I need new brakes (could be as it's done 45K).
Any other ideas or suggestions? Thanks Glyn

You won't need new brakes at 45K - they should go much further than that - even in city driving. I did 150K in my old VE before I turned it over (lease), all of it on the original pads - albeit a lot of freeway work - and they had lots left on them at 150 as well.
The sensors can be an issue, and have proven to be the cause of this fault on several VEs I know of.
The other thing that can cause it is low or erratic battery voltage - the ABS does a self test, and will throw up a warning if it thinks the volts are too low - there may be sufficient power to run the rest of the car though.
If the light is still on, then it has logged a fault code. You can get it scanned for codes - the more expensive scanners will even tell you which wheel sensor is at fault (if it's a wheel sensor). This is probably the best way for you to go.
There's even a sensor on the steering wheel angle that stability control relies on - this can also fail, and the only way you'd find it is a lot of trial & error, or by scanning the fault codes. |

Thanks a lot for the reply Mick and the information supplied.
The battery should be Ok....only 18 months old but worth checking.
I don't have a scanner so I guess I'll have to get the fault code scanned.....looks like a trip to the Holden dealer!!
It was strange that the ABS and ESC both "faulted" at exactly the same time. I guess they may be related.

ESC relies on wheel speed sensors - so does the ABS.
A lot of workshops have scanners these days - it may pay to ring your local reputable guy & ask first before heading to Holden. |

Had the same problem on wm caprice had to replace a abs sensor and loom on rear
|

Thanks again Mick and also thanks Daily Driver for your input.
I'll follow up with my local guy to see if he can scan and fix the problem before contacting Holden dealer.

The ABS, stability control & traction control are all controlled thru the ABS module. As Mick has said, get it scanned by a pro. Probably not a good idea not to erase any codes, just for the sake of it. It's better to leave them there to give the technician enough info to diagnose any possible fault(s). Dr Terry |

I'll follow the advice and get it scanned etc.
As a matter of interest, I came to see you to have you replace the ABS module on a WH Statesman I had a few years back which was casuing all sorts of weird problems at the time.....fixed the problem completely.
