hi can anyone tell me the part number for a saginaw 1st gear from the "hk"parts book please

The Blue Parts Book lists only one for the sag - 3859981.

Correct, M21 and M22 use the same 1st gear. It is 3rd and 4th (input shaft) gear and the cluster that differ between the two. Same as how an M21 differs from a standard M20 (3.05 1st).

The 327 GTS ( M36567 ) Supplementary catalogue also suggests that same part number, 3859981... which therefore also suggests that it was 1st used or introduced with the 81837 HK monaro
