Hi Everyone
I have a 1971 HQ Statesman that I have been working on for around 6 months now and today when I was rubbing back the firewall I noticed the numbers on the firewall did not match the body number on the ID tag. All other numbers match except this one, has it had a re body or is this normal ? I have been searching all afternoon and cant find a definite answer
Firewall number is 17155-S
Body Tag Number is 17236-S
Any info would be great as I am trying to work out what has happened, thanks.

The firewall number is the most important number during HQ-mid HZ vehicle assembly at the Pagewood plant. But it means nothing once the vehicle is assembled, except it is always close to the chassis number but almost never the same. Should also be close to the BODY number on a 1971 Pagewood HQ which yours is.
The firewall number is how vehicles were tracked at Pagewood. They used the chassis number prior to HQ, but as Pagewood HQ onwards didn't get a chassis until much later in the aseembly process they had to put a number on the HQ body so it could be identified. This number will also appear on the broadcast sheet. |

Thanks HK1837 for clearing that up for me, I have had the car about seven years and knew the last two owners over the previous ten years before that and none of them could tell me anything about a swap but your info has been a huge help. Great forum cant believe it has taken me so long to find it !
