Just replaced the radiator in my HG Monaro with a new aluminium one with twin thermos and catch tank. Can anyone advice which is best to run water or coolant? Rebuilt 350 with steel Fuelie heads.

Aluminium radiators are quite vulnerable to corrosion so use a good quality coolant. If you use straight water, your radiator will be just white powder in less that 1 year.
I would use GM Dexcool. It the red/orange stuff that they use in Gen 3/4 & Alloytecs etc from the factory. It is a long life coolant (5 years) & doesn't contain any glycol.
I don't sell it, but I've noticed very few dramas with it on cars that I see going thru my workshop & it's been on the market for over 13 years.

Have a read up on the 'web about stray currents and how to test for them. Nulon have a good fact sheet. You basically have to minimise currents through the water/coolant mixture or your new alloy radiator will rotpretty quickly. |
