hi GTS .. it is a Melbourne assembled, factory GTS350 T/H400 81837 and for the number crunchers (who have completely amazed me) the engine, which is still in the car is QU40113K0303H...i'll have to write all the plate/chassis details down and pass them on to the learned scholars LOL...

...Amethyst metallic/white interior and first registered to GMH so my guess is that it was an executive jigger ??

Hi "detective" what an awesome combo, seems a genuine MacKinnon block, lucky you, and top of the range auto :)

"HK1837" is really up with facts and figures and has access to "Ben Steewart" and "Warren Turnball" (hope that's not name dropping :P)will be the best bet.

PS what a sweet color and combo, my guess would be the same.
Motor on now and reject ovals.

hi hqgts .. i have to admit to once being a bit of a Monaro snob....even as a 19 year old pimply headed kid when i first bought this jigger LOL....

...pretty sure it had the 350 decals on the (still original) front mudguards, as there are no holes for any badges although the V8 and GTS emblems are on the boot...

...also the bonnet and boot have had the white paint-outs and showing the usual crows feet from when the clearcoat was applied to diminish the ''step'' in the paint finish, which was a factory applied procedure...which then brings its own set of problems, as the paint-outs were introduced later in the model run as an update, and weren't a feature of these earliest cars...

...having been first registered to GMH i'm wondering if the car may have belonged to the styling department or similar, as there are a couple of other minor interesting cosmetic features that have had me intrigued over all these years...

Hi "detective"
She sure is a GTS Monaro, as you you say Amethyst Metalic with houndstooth trim, may have had badge/decal delete, and indeed fine machine especially if you're a Perth "Glory", Fremantle "Dockers" or Melbourne "Storm" supporter :P well she was built in Melbourne anyway.

Most of the chev SB's used in the HQ line were cast at the McKinnon plant in Canada, as I am lead to believe, and they contain the "K" in the engine number plus the date of casting, not sure how that works? So it's definitely an original block.

Does your car have the spider cracks around the back seatbelt anchors on the bootwall?

PS
Please tell us these interesting "cosmetic features" you say, I'm captivated in finding out what you believe might of happened?
Cheers :)
Tad

hi GTS .. she doesn't have any cracks..or rust for that matter!...even the obligatory front suspension chassis bracket cracks (which as we all know will eventually run up the side of the rail) are non-existant...

... done 131000 miles and parked her up in 1987, and been under cover ever since....cheers

hi hq .. the decals are a good mystery to me as there are bugger all around still showing these original fitments....i remember them on the front mudguards of both the HG and the HQ and the HG GTS350 had a more compact style of decal than the HQ GTS350... which had a longer decal that suited the low rakish looking car that it was (IDSTBC).....cheers mate
