OK so Im over my daughters VT now........
3.8lt ECOTEC the car has developed a knocking in the engine, seems to be coming from the top end not the bottom end using the old screw driver trick and on the #1 cylinder. There does not appear to be any audiable knocking at idle but as soon as you bring the revs up you can her the knocking easly. Car has been running like a chram untill a quick 1k drive down to the local shops and back when the knocking started. Has new oil and filter , new water pump, new radiator fitted just before the knoking started.
Suggestion ??? any common problem like this with this series motor ?? |

Yes this is my train of thought but Im not farmiliar with the newer motors, roller cams and so on. Is it a big job to do lifters ? Can the cam fail ? Do I just stick a match to it ? |

I would have a look at the coil first. Don't run the motor with a lead off as this buggers the coil.
