OK so my daughter upgraded to a VZ after the VT failed today the car refused to start, key would not turn in the ignition barrel and a little red pad lock appeared on the dash constantly flashing. Tried what the boo said by inserting the key pressing the unlock button then try starting the car. This stopped the padlock insignia from flashing but still could not turn the key. I have heard this is a common problem as the ignition barrels colapse tru or false ?? Any other suggestions or other fauls knowen in this series??? the car has only don 118,000k and is 2004 model lumina

Ok so I found out that the 'side loaded key' ignition barrels have a tendancy to 'collapse' inside preventing the key from turning in the barrel. This has been a problem in Holden since their introduction but has progresivly gotten worse as the models have gone down the line. leaving the VZ/E series having major problems, more so than the Fords according to the lock smithg that rebuilt the ignition barrel. He has done 10 in the last 12 months for the local Holden yards.
