Hi there,

Is seam welding the floor of a car advisable? I have my HQ stripped to the shell and it was suggested I seam weld the floor to add strength.

Any suggestions, advice, examples and or experiences will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Tad

hi GTS .. IMHO, unless you intend to rally or race the car (this is the 350 manual we are referring to?) i'd be inclined to leave it the way it came from the factory...for originality's sake, as well as any unneccesary expense incurred...

...the spider cracks you refer to must have originated for a reason....overt axle tramp?, previous race/rally work? or possibly a wrongly set up towbar.....that particular area may need a bit of extra attention....but personally i've not been aware of any issue with the HQ's up till now, so it may have been a very local problem pertaining to your own particular car...

...hope that helps...cheers mate

Thank you so much for your input "detective" and you are absolutely 100% spot on. They did have a tow-bar, bull-bar and ill fitting air shockies poorly installed, so I guess that's what's caused those cracks. Yes all done on my HQ 350 manual sedan, they even took her bush-bashing and rabbit shooting. I found a 22 bullet in the air-con ducting, all the chassis rails are bent up and wads of spinifex lodged in hard to get places.

Your comments have certainly eased a nagging doubt :)

I would like to plate up, to reinforce those anchor points, do you think that'd interfere with the originality?

There has been no mention of those "spider cracks" anywhere else on the forums.

Thanks again for your opinion and it does help.

Cheers mate

Sounds like it was a paddock basher. Lucky to have survived at all.

hi GTS .. an 'enth degree restoration would dictate the unspotting of the whole offending panel and a good one re-installed....but it's up to you how far you want to go, and you may be quite happy with some localised plating or a doubler to arrest the problem...

...i certainly have heard quite a few horror stories regarding air shockers and the penny dropped when you mentioned them.....cheers and good luck with her mate
