I was just about to add this exact set of questions to the forum but saw yours. Hope we get an answer. It appears to me not many people are interested in the old six. I wanna get my bored out to the max a six can be. You can't beat a super tidy looking 6.

One more question, is it a routine job or something more costly?

The best advice I have seen on these was written by "oldjonno" at www.gmh-torana.com.au. I'd go and have a read of that.

The max you will go oversize in most cases is 60 to 80 thou, this is done purely for reconditioning purposes, because the bore is worn.

The amount of extra power gained from boring a motor by this amount is miniscule, certainly not worth the $$ spent for the hp gained. You wouldn't overbore a motor which already has a good unworn bore just the sake of a few cubic inches.

As Byron has said have a look at oldjonno's blogs, he has possibly been around Holden 6s for more years than I.

Talk to a few engine reconditioners, most will give you honest advice & many prefer to just carry out the machine work & let you do the assembly. Engine assembly is very labour intensive, but it's not rocket science if a pro has already machined & toleranced the parts for you. A little cleanliness & patience will go a long way.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0
