we had the car out on Saturday out cruzing. had it sitting at 7000rmp in third gear bout to change into 4th. and the motor made a ping sound then just shut down. got the car back homeand done afew tests on it.eg got spark, fuel. done a comp test sitting on 100 pound over all 6. lifters and push rods are fine. the dissy gear is fine. the only thing I can put it down to is. with the motor at tdc on number 1 the rotor button is pointing past no1 on the cap. could that mean we have striped the timming gear on the cam sharft??? anyhelp would be good

It must be turning, otherwise he would have no spark or fuel. It could just have jumped a tooth on either the cam gear or the distributor drive gear. BTW, 7,000 rpm is serious revving for a street Holden 6. Dr Terry |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

.... and in 3rd gear most likely a considerable speed. Edited by user Thursday, 31 January 2013 8:40:15 PM(UTC)

If you reckon you've got comp, spark & fuel...start from scratch. TDC on No.1 comp stroke. Move distributor to get rotor on No.1. Then try for start up.
