Better replacement for horrible VY Commodore seats

Hi Guys,
Newbie here, posting on behalf of my 74 year old, Commodore driving father.......
The driver's seat in his (96,000km only) VY Commodore is terrible.
It's very uncomfortable and causes him pain on long trips.
I just got back from a 2 hour journey in it and I see what he means!
Is there a replacement that anyone can recommend?
I've suggested a pair of Statesman seats, assuming they are any better, but we have no idea if they actually bolt into a standard VY Commodore.
Any help/advice greatly appreciated. |

Try some V2 CV8 seats. They should fit, but they are all electric control which might be a problem. I agree the standard Commodre and Calais seats are horrible, but the Monaro seats are much more comfortable. Might be hard for a 74yo to get in and out of though! |

I'm sure it depends on your build. I'm quite a large person, those who have met me will no what I mean.
My daily driver for several years now has been a 2000 WH Statesman. I've found it very comfortable especially on long trips. It's getting a bit long on the tooth now (it has 300,000 km on the odo), the seats are showing their age, but they are still quite comfortable.
Last week I purchased a VY Exec wagon, as a run-a-round & I was surprised how much more comfy the newer seats were. I find the Monaro seats too hard & too high in the bolsters, while others like them. I find the same with most Falcons & Japanese cars also.
I don't there is much difference between Exec, Berlina, Calais & Statesman seats except for trim & the electric recliner. I'm sure the frame is the same & all models VT onwards get the 4-way electric height adjust anyway.
As I said, I think it depends on your body size.
FairlaneGreg might check out Recaros or something similar.

The reason I suggested the V2 seats is I can drive my CV8 a long way and get out feeling fine. Like 6 hours straight up Thunderbolts way from Newcastle to Glen Innes. The VY-VZ and VE's i've hired (normally Calais or SV6) to drive from Newcastle to Sydney or vice versa to go to the international airport i've had enough of the seats by halfway and have to stop at Maccas for a coffee. The only hire car i've had with good seats has been a G6E Falcon. Note these are all sub 15,000kM hire cars too.
I'm a big guy too as Dr Terry will attest, but we are very different body shapes so our experiences will differ. I'm 6'5" amd 120kg. |

Instead of looking for other seats and then trying to fit them. Maybe go to a good local upholsterer to see if they can restructure the seats foam to suit your fathers shape posture etc I do this with motor cycle seats by a guy who looks at how your posture is on the bike this also includes the pillion and he uses gel and memory foam. I sold my VX Calais at 120,000K and the foam in the seats was showing signs deteriorating but still comfy. If I had not sold it I would of had the seats re foamed.

Funny that with Vy seats my 03 exec has fairly firm seats yet my 50th anniversary Vt has much more comfortable seats and seem softer , maybe the later cars got cheaper foam lol!
