What type? High or Low comp? Early (ie 149-186) or late (173/202)?

Those are different heads, 149HC head is a closed chamber, 179 and 186HC heads are an open chamber head (and is actually the low comp 149-161 head). You can put the H head onto a 186 but you end up with XU1 type compression (that is basically what and XU1 engine is ie a 186 with a 161H head).

I see, thanks for the info. So sounds like I need a 161H to put on my 186, which will run a 223 Clive cam, a 2 Barrel Carb and Pacemakers with a 2 inch exhaust......where do I get one? I finally found a nice HR Premier and that's what the engine is going into.

Just keep an eye on Ebay. That combo will be around 10:1 or possibly more if the head is shaved.

Here's one. It says 202 but it is a 161H head.

Just get new seats put in, then you can run ULP without additive.

Didn't you say you had one? 149 and 161 H heads should be the same basic thing.

You'll want a pretty serious n/a 202 to get 270hp, triples, XU1 spec cam etc.

Yes you are correct, sounded to dodgy so I rang Eddie at HSD and he has built me a stage 3 Head for $1300. Also got a Cam and lifters from Clive's Cams. Both fantastic blokes to deal with
