Hi I am currently rebuilding the motor in my HG, it is an original factory 253 and has the original block still in it. The bottom end had a kit put through it a few years ago however the heads are shagged out.
I know everyone says to rip out the 253 and put a 308 in it however its a matching numbers car and if i ever sell it i can change the manifold and carby over and she will be back to pretty much standard.
I am having the heads redone (nothing silly - just std) and am putting a CM313 cam in it and a 4 BBL edelbrock performer manifold and holley 465, anyone got any idea of how much power this will produce? also if I add extractors what will this do to it also.

You'd probably be better off with an original HT-HJ 308 manifold and early Quadrajet, will look original and work as well as the other combo.

I have no idea what cam that is, a bit bigger than std ?
You need a single 2 2/4 free flowing exhaust at least.
A good std HG 253 makes about maybe 150 net HP i think and a 308 = 196 net HP.

A CM313 cam will be too big for a street driven HG 253, especially if it's an auto.

The listing I have says it has 233 duration @50 thou & .495" lift, plus they describe it as a 'stage 4'.

I'd stay with a stock cam & as HK1837 said use a Q-Jet & a stock hQ type inlet. It will be both economical & torquey & not drive like a pig.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

I'd also swap to a HEI dizzy and coil, can be done without any major mods and looks relatively stock.
