Hi Guys Im looking at purchasing a Hq Monaro Gts Coupe 06/73
The Chassis number reads DHQ 8XXXX MR
Can someone please tell me what the MR stands for because its also on the compliance plate as well. I know that M means Melbourne but what does the R stand for??
Much appreciated

Repeat. Someone stuffed up and stamped the same chassis number twice, so the R was put there so the chassis didn't have to be scrapped. I've only ever seen one other Dandenong assembly plant repeat chassis number and they got the BHJxxxxxMR correct on the ADR plate, but on the rails it read BHJxxxxxRM. Engines often turn up like it as well, they got the same thing ie an R on the end. If it happened again R1 then R2 were used.

Many thanks for your quick reply. The bloke thats selling it has also told me that the car has been unregistered for over 20 years and a PPSR check from my end shows no data on this chassis number. Would you know why the report is telling me that and do you think that R stamp would be a problem in future resale.

Not sure what a PPSR is, but if it is like a REVS check it will be becasue they don't have any data on it. The R will only be an issue if you are trying to sell to idiots in the future, unfortunately there are plenty of them around now so my guess is they'll still be around in the future! As long as the rails match the ADR plate then all is good. If you like PM me the vehicle's details and i'll see what I can dig up.

I have pics of a VL chassis number with an R13 on the end.
Guess they stuffed up at least 14 times before finding that one!

I've seen R probably 7-8 times in the VK-VL period, so it's not that uncommon (at least in the Commodore era).
Cheers,

Mick
