Motor position & choice of the steering components of your conversion will go a long way to determining your exhaust options. Another thing will be the engineer you choose & the determination of what is allowed for registration in your particular state. There a some companies that can sell 'off the shelf' extractors to 'suit', but I wouldn't touch them with a 10' barge pole. Preferred option is to have a reputable exhaust guy that specialises in building custom extractors do the job. HR front ends are different to EH. Ball joints in HR, as opposed to king pins in EH, are the principle differences along with many other upgrades in the HR. Sounds like you're at the early stages of the V8 conversion. For what it's worth, put a realistic budget together & chat with others that have completed such jobs. Work out what your particular state requires & if an engineer is required to authorise all your mods, best you speak to one of them with your proposals first. Of the two rack positions, a front mounted rack is going to give you a little more room to play with when trying to squeeze extractors beside the rails. The difficulty is going to be the drivers side due to the steering shaft & starter motor leaving very little room. It's not only clearance around the starter but also heat build up that can pose starter problems. As in my previous reply, your particular motor position is also going to influence how much room you'll have. Now is the time to talk to exhaust guys to find one that can & will do the job.....& price the job. Expect $2K-$3K for a well built, mandrel bend job. Millimetres do matter. Hi again,castlemain/waddingtons do one for the EH with a SBC for $1000.But not sure if it will fit? The other one goes through the guards for $680?

I doubt it....as much as a V8 conversion into an early Holden is & has been a common mod, each & everyone is different in small details. 'Off the shelf' type of components can be problematic due to the variations each build has. Nothing bolts straight in... |
