Can the non power steer pitman arm be used with the 16:7 steering box and power steer setup? Theres a different part number for each. If not, whats the difference between the two?

In the HK Brougham I had many years ago, the guy inspecting it for rego (a country Holden dealer)passed it with a worn pitman arm because he said you couldn't get the original (power steer)arm any more and it is different to the standard arm. I didn't ask him what the difference is.

The standard HK HT HG pitman arm can be used with the fast ratio steering box. An example of this is all GTS Monaros. The power steer pitman arm and the standard pitman arm are the same in length, width etc. In fact the power steering pitman arm is a standard one but has one end faced where it attaches to the drag link. They also have the part number ground off. |

Hi guys,
Sorry to dig up an ancient post!
Does anyone know the exact details of the hk/t/g power steering arm differences and where to get one?
I have installed power steering and was silly enough to buy a power steering pitman arm off the seller on ebay who apparently just machines down a standard arm which means it sits down too low on the ball stud.
I have been told the taper is different on the power steering arm and that would explain why the arm I purchased sits too low down on the ball stud and needs to be packed with washers to tighten it.
I am worried about damaging the ballstud and power valve like this so am interested in tracking down a proper power steering arm if anyone knows where I can find one!! Cheers.

Yea I feel your pain! You can get it to work by shimming the top with a washer but long term roger at Holdenman resto is developing a workaround so keep an eye out. Seems originals are impossible to find I dont even bother looking anymore and using the milled standard arm long term will wear the stud out but to be honest I don't drive it a lot so I'm not really worried about it at this stage.
