Serial number is on a small plate on the side for HQ to HZ TH400. Should start with EK or E? (can't remember the other code). |

Hi , Serial numbers statr at 1001 for any given model year , HQ EH-1001 on , HJ, HX & HZ EK-1001 on . So 71-EH-1128 is ,1971 , 127th TH400 fitted to a HQ . The 2 trans are simalar and only differ in calibration & valve features. ( This is from Th400 service manual ) Mark. |

They were a real slushbox std. I think they were all calibrated the same as 1st gear could only be selected under 25 KM/H in now way could they be regarded as performance oriented std sadly in our holdens. But i did read of a test in aus with a 1974 pontiac trans-am 455ci V8 they said the T400 worked real well they were so surprised how it worked and the 455 would rev out to 5700 rpm without running out of power and said the XB GT ran out of power over 4500 rpm.

I just looked at the numbers, to me it reads as a 1971 make, weren't all hq v8s trimatic?, unless it was a 350 chev, they wouldn't fit a 1971 trans in the first 10/74 hj's would they?

Hi , yes TH400 only on 350 until HJ. 3329 seems to high , my TH400 is in a 350 Prem built 19-06-73 & it reads 73-EH-1073, I do not think that 3300 1971 HQs were fitted with a 350, but i could be wrong. Mark. |
