A question for any painters.
It's nearly time to put the gold GTS stripes on a Verdoro green HT.
I'm curious about the correct process to follow.
Do you do the green base-coat, then add gold stripes, then clear over the lot?
Or do you clear the green and add stripes over that?
Or any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

When the stripes were put on my MG they did the white stripe color first, masked that up did then sprayed the green main color, unmasked the stripes then cleared the lot.

If you look at the HK production photos, they painted the stripes seperately, so after the car was almost completed. Therefore woould have been colour, clear then stripes.

Not sure if they would have done the same in HT but suspect they would have, as you do not wantto slow the whole line down apinting stripes on a very limited number of cars (less than 5% of production)

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

I remember Ben telling me that the stripes that were metallic were painted in the body plant and assembly plants (just depends which site as to what got painted where). I think it was because they had to get clear over the metallic. Whereas black stripes were painted later. I'll check with him again when I get a chance.

It appears that the process for green/gold and red/gold for HT was that the stripes were added as part of the normal paint process, so clear coated and baked, whereas the black stripes were added in the finishing/touch-up areas.
This is probably why bugger all 2 x metallic coloured cars were used after HT unless there was a dividing mould between the colours eg 50th anniversary HX's. Imagine the nightmare of trying to align the stripes on the guards with the doors when the guards are not painted when on the car?

Yes clear was used. If it wasn't metallics wouldn't last very long like the non-clear coated gold stripes on Broughams and SL Torana.
