HK 307 Chev Engine number, Monaro or Brougham?

Hi Holden Experts. Unfortunately I have to sell my Brougham (now fitted with a 350 chev) and 307 short block. Would like some help trying to ID the engine. Was told "it came from a Monaro" when I brought the car. Maybe a lot of people have been told that over the years. Casting Number: GM3914636 then M (in a square) and 4. from: http://www.chevcarclubvi..._eng_casting_numbers.htmIt appears to be 307 2 bolts mains made in 1968. Engine number is 307467xx then K0430 Any ideas. Any influence on retail price? Any help greatly appreciated. ps. Any ideas on the best way to sell the Brougham? Cheers Daryl.

It is a 307 from a HK or HT assembled in Dandenong, that is all you can tell from the numbers. It is unlikely to be from a Monaro, there were a significant amount of HK 307 Monaros produced early but they were hard to sell so not many more would have been made. It is most likely from a HK or HT GTS or if it is early enough it may be from a HK Brougham. But there is every chance it is out of a Belmont, Kingswood or Premier too.
I makes no difference where it came from originally anyway as the engines were all the same. |

Agreed but some people get obsessed with having cars with correct numbers etc even if the engine is the same.
Anyway I know now the engine is definitely the right vintage.

There is no correct engine number for a car other than the original. You cannot tell from a HK-HT 307 engine number what it came from outside of knowing what assembly plant it was stamped at. |

What about all those ads that claim 307, 327 Chev a from Monaro. Are you saying the only to know for sure would be to see the original rego papers or service logs?

False advertising. You can tell that a 327 came from a GTS, but you cannot tell that a 307 came from a GTS or from a Monaro short of documentation as you state. |
