Hi Fastlaners,

I am trying to establish what the factory correct jet sizes were for a HT 186S WW Stromberg carburettor? Can anyone advise what the sizes are?

I am also wondering if the WW Stromberg is fitted to a stock 186 (ie, not S) would one need to modify (ie, reduce?) the jet sizes?

In the context of the above queries I am also wondering if the HT-G 186 motors had the same cam as the HT-G 186S motors? My understanding is that HK 186S and HK 186 had different cams, but that they were all the same on the later models?

Any info or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

HK std 186(126 hp), HT 186 manuals(130 hp) were upgraded and used 186s cam and valves, HT 186 autos used HK STD 186 cams

It was actually the reverse, AFAIK it was the HT autos which got the S cam & the manuals remained with the HK 186 cam.

Also I believe that the S valves are the same size as stock.

Information was from The Monaro Story page 173. Also states 186S exhaust were heavier.

Hi bazza, we were both wrong.

The valves on the 186 S engine are no larger in diameter than the std engine, however they are made of a tougher material. So this would make it a durability upgrade rather than a performance upgrade. I believe this may only have been the exhaust valves.

Also, I believe that the cam timing specs of the S motor to be the same as the std cam, it was the lift that was increased.

As far as the HT 186 motor is concerned, both the auto & manual versions got the S camshaft. The inlet manifold was revised on manuals only.

Roll on the HG, the automatics went back to the HK cam & they also got a revised inlet manifold on autos only.

I'll have to dig out my Bendix-Stromberg book & find those jet sizes for the OP. I think that stock 186 S jetting would be fine on a std 186 using modern fuels.

Good info Terry, a list of the jet sizes for the different WW's would be interesting. ie 186,253 and didn't leyland and ford use the ww also. Cheers bazza

Hi Dr Terry and bazza30555,

Thanks for your comments/advice on the 186s cam and carby jets. What was the revision to the inlet manifold for the HT manuals? Are the auto and manual manifold interchangeable?

Cheers
