What is the best way to test a temperature switch for the warning light on the dash . Seems to no longer flash while the engine is cranking so i am worried it wont warn me when it overheats . Thinking maybe my ignition switch could be stuffed as i replaced the switch only a few yrs ago .

The illumination of the temp light during starting has nothing to do with the sender, it is part of the ignition circuit to check the lamp is ok.

I'd be looking at the bulb first. No real way to test the sender short of getting it to an "overheat' temperature- whatever figure that is.
Have you tried earthing the wire to the sender? Do that and the light should come on. Assuming the rest of the circuit is OK.
As Warren has said, it ain't gonna be the ign switch. |
Attn camry drivers. The accelerator is the skinny pedal on the right. |

Find the temp sender wire and earth it, then turn on the ignition, lamp should light up.
Yes cluster out to change lamp unless you can reach up under the dash to remove it.

Ok , I earthed the warning light wire and the lamp lights up . But when it is connected to the switch it won't light up with the ignition on or whilst the motor is cranking .

If the temp lights comes on when the green sender wire is earthed out, then both the globe & circuit are OK.
The ignition switch is faulty.
This is a common occurrence in EH to HG Holdens. The earthing contact inside the switch gets burned out if the ignition coil is 'hot wired'.
You will have to find a good 2nd hand switch. To my knowledge these switches are not available new. The Rare Spares items do not have the correct pin configuration.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |
