I am wanting to keep the hk stud pattern on my car and was wondering if hq callipers will bolt onto my hk disk brake stubs. In turn will the hq stub axle bolt up to the hk wish bones, I'm sure they do but can you run a hk rotor on the hk stubs to keep the stud pattern?

You can get HQ rotors that are ordered blank, and then drilled to any pattern you want |

Have a look on Hoppers Stoppers website, they explain a lot about fitting different brakes on old Holdens.

HK-WB stubs are essentially the same, just swapped side to side. There is a slight change to do with calipers during HX (not sure how significant it is) and also tonner ones are heat treated. |

Did HX have PBR calipers and HZ have Girlock calipers? |

I think there was a change during HX from all cast to cast/alloy. The change was probably only to do with the machining area where the caliper mounts but i've never taken a look at them side by side to compare. |

The calipers didn't change right on the model change.
HQ, HJ & early HX had a choice of either PBR or Girlock, both in cast iron.
Most HX & early HZ got the PBR alloy type, & then the Girlock alloy type (similar to Commodore) was fitted to most HZs. WB also got alloy Girlocks but they differed slightly from the HZ ones.
AFAIK they are all interchangeable on the stub axles, the change to the mounting pad must've been quite minor.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

So does this mean I can run hq calipers on my hk stubs with hk rotors?

On the HK, You swap the stubs around, ie left goes on the right and vice versa. Then the HQ Rotors and calipers bolt straight up. I used Blank HQ rotors drilled for HK Pattern. Worked great, but could not use HK Wheels, needed to be HT or HG. I needed the HK slots so ended up having to modify the HK wheels a lot to get them to fit. But got there in the end. But use HT or G wheels and you will be fine. or any 15 inch or above wheel will go straight on. very easy conversion. Edited by user Saturday, 22 February 2014 5:19:52 AM(UTC)

I want to use my factory hk rims so if I swap the stubs around and use my hk rotors and hq calipers can I use my hk rims? Just trying to het a bigger pad onto the rotor for better stopping, hk is pretty small

coupe i think the problem with the hk rims is the offset, it causes the rims to rub on the larger calipers, at least that was my experience when converting the eh to hr front axles with hg disks.

I just found the changeover today Terry by accident when looking for something else. HX features manual lists August 1976 vehicle production as the introduction of "lightweight aluminium calipers". I agree the change to stubs must be minor as i've never noticed a huge difference. |
