What's the tool do? Spread the control arm? It's been ages since I worked on a HK.

When I did mine, I think I unscrewed the metal bushes from the wishbone & removed it that way.

Reversed it to refit them. Sorry, that's all I can offer.
Have you tried oldholden.com?

Cheers,
Chris

The tool fits between the wishbone and the crossmember
It stops the wishbone squashing in as you install the bushing
I can buy one but I don't see myself doing another front end refurb on the ol girl the last one lasted 40 odd years
I will be 95 before the next one is due ???
Cheers

I remember a tool like you mentioned for the rubber bushed HT & G front ends, but the HK metal bushes screwed in didn't they?

Now I'm even more confused..........

The manual quotes 1.57" to 1.61" from the inner surface of the control arm to the surface of the crossmember. I just used a bit of steel pipe, cut to length, then cut in half lengthwise.

Hi

yep I seen these dimensions in the manual and am thinking exactly along those lines of a making my own special tool the same way re out of Pipe.

That pic in the manual is a bit confusing as the paragraph above _ re installation of lower control arm pivot pins refers to that Pic for dimensions of pin location ???

I was hoping someone had the special tool they could just measure up.

Cheers

Hi All

I am new to this forum and new to restoring old Holdens.

This info is for the lower wishbone. The manual I used instructs to just make the arm equal each side of the cross member. It was easy and went without problems.

My problem is the upper wishbone. My manual says to insert Litchfield tool number 3 A 12 between the arms of the wishbone at the bushing (mine is an early HK with the steel bushes). It has pins the go into the pivot bolt holes and keeps everything central when you bolt up the bushes.

Want I want to know is does anyone know what the dimensions should be? It should be easy enough to make a tool if I know some dimensions, especially the distance between the arms.

Thanks in advance.

Hi. The factory shop manual makes no mention of a special tool for the upper wishbone, only to torque each bushing to between 90 and 110 ft-pounds. There is a drawing which shows

Which shows two check dimensions, between the inner faces of the wishbone of 6.69 to 6.71 inches, and from each inner face of the wishbone to the centre of the pivot shaft mounting holes of 1.44-1.50 inches. Bad drawing practice to dimension to the centre of a hole, but there you go.
I think the quick answer is do them up to torque and make sure it is centred on the shaft.
