been taking the vk for its first run, was pleased to see it run up to 140 k until was passed by a bus.
think the speedo is a tad out, and it dances around crazily.
tried to get it out today to try a bit of oil on the cable, but could not work out how to remove it.
got the 3 screws that go in from the front, but the panel seems to be caught on the left side.
guessing that the best way to get at the speedo is from the panel, seems a bit hard to reach to the back of the dash.
would that be right?
thanks

You do have to reach up under the dash, and release the metal clip that holds the speedo cable in. It's the only way to do it without breaking stuff, if you want to get the cable out.
If you were only removing the head, you can do it from the front, once you have removed the cluster lense.

If it's reading that high, then I'd suggest it's the speedo head at fault - it may have some junk caught in the air gap between the driven rotor (that the cable spins) & the slip-rotor that the needle is driven off.
Cheers,

Mick

thanks Mick
but i think i will have to get the head out so need to remove the surround, but as i said the surround seems to be still attached on the left side, does it simply pull out or are there more screws or clips somewhere? i have removed the 3 that are in the top of the surround.

well got the speedo cable out what a lot of stuffing around to dismantle the dash.
discovered the inner cable was very hard to pull out jammed somewhere low down, got it out, oiled it then it would not go back in, jams about 150mm from the bottom, so will be jacking it up tomorrow to see if the the outer cable has a kink in it, may have got bashed on a kerb or something.
also the clock does not work and will need a new one of them, and still cant get the radio out, any chance of getting the 2 special tools from anywhere or can someone give me the measurements.
while i have it pulled apart will look at wiring it up for the electric aerial, for when i can find one.
