Helping a mate try to id an engine his Looking to buy, its for his hk monaro and he wants to keep with the correct numbers for the car, is there a site i can visit to help decipher the engine numbers? Its a chev v8 and the engine number starts with 307

Yes here! Note that there is only one correct engine for the car and that info can only be found in sales documents or old rego paperwork.

I should have explained clearer, he wants a correct period engine. He bought it last night anyway so heres the details.

Block cast number GM3914636

Head cast numbers 8911032 canada gm

Engine number 30746995 and beside and above k0529

It is a Dandenong assembly plant 307, it is a fair way into the sequence so it'll be late HK or possibly HT from a car assembled at Dandenong. Most of the 05 or 07 dated Pagewood 307's I have are late HK or HT. I'll see if I can find out a closer approx.

So what's the difference between a prem, brougham and gts, this has the 2 barrel manifold

Nothing in HK. For HK Belmont, Kingswood, Monaro, GTS, Premier and Brougham all used the same engine if V8 optioned. And same engine regardless of auto or manual except for the slight differences associated with manual vs auto.
HT is slightly different in that Brougham were all 308 not 307, and there were no manual 307's (not officially anyway).
