Hi Dr Terry,
I have read the Moffat car was repaired and raced then written off a couple of years later.
From what i have read on the Internet the smashed Moffat VK is believed to be chassis number 14 but i think chassis number 14 would be too late for this car as it should be between numbers 8 - 11 going by the 84 Bathurst cars being 6 and 7 so you would think the 85 - 86 cars would be 8 - 11.
My shell is probably the first 1985 spec group a shell as it has no captive nuts for the roll cage and yet is a AVK 0343## prefix chassis number which would make it extremely late 1984 or start of 1985 shell so maybe first of 1985 GMP and A Group A race shells.
What do you think?
Is it possible the Moffat VK was chassis number 8 and it was stripped and rebuild using a new chassis? Thus becoming chassis number 14. That would fit in to a chassis 14 time frame and with the original damaged written off Moffat shell chassis number 8 being sold off at the jagparts auction with the very bent frontend in the early 90's.
Have you any records relating to HDT chassis number 8 ?
It was advertised in the jagparts catologue as an ex HDT VK Racing shell and being so badly damaged at the front and in the same location would be very hard not to be the Moffat car.
There would be some evidence in Group A history of another VK having had such a hard hit and written off and especially being an ex HDT race shell.
So can anyone tell me what is going on?
Who owns the number 14 and was it re shelled?
And, is my car the original Moffat shell?
Please, can anyone tell me what has gone on here?
There is so much talk and speculation about the HDT cars, is it possible the "Known" chassis 14 Moffat chassis shell is not the original one damaged in 1986 but a replacement shell for number 8. ???
