Hi Fastlaners,

I am trying to find out some information on the electric aerial option that I believe was available from HT onwards:

01) Can anyone tell me what brand the aerials were? Possibly Harada or Delco? Would they have been the same as that mounted on the GM US cars of the time?

02) Were the aerials sami or fully automatic, i.e. controlled 100% by a switch or were they wired to the radio on/off button by a relay?

03) Does anyone know the correct mounting position (my understanding is that electric aerials were mounted on the rear passenger fender and manual aerials were mounted on the front passenger guard)? Was there a Nasco fitting guide or anything similar that gave dimensions for the position and size of the mounting hole?

04) If anyone has a factory fitted one installed in their car, would they be able to send me a few photographs showing what it looked like, mounting details etc?

05) And for the final extremely long shot ( ! ), would anyone have a factory aerial and wiring (switch and cables) working or not that they might be willing to sell or swap for parts?

I would appreciate any information or advice on this particular HT Holden option.

I do not know which brand they used for HT/G, but Harada was used for the HQ onwards electric aerial.

They were just manually switched (up & down), with no relay. The circuit is depicted in the factory HT workshop manual.

I've only seen one original unit fitted & it used the same switch & lever/knob as the wagon tailgate electric glass. The hole for it is already drilled (punched ?) near the fold-down fuse box.

I'm sure that NASCO fitting instructions would be around.

01) In the September 1969 issue of Wheels magazine in a road test of a HT Brougham it mentions at the end of the article that the brougham has a factory fitted aerial made by the
" Nippon Antenna Co " That's the only info I have ever been able to find out re the make of aerial used on the HT-G's
02) The aerials were semi automatic and were worked from a switch under bottom edge of the dash (exact same switch that was used to operate an electric tailgate window in the wagons)
The holes for these switches are under the bottom edge of the dash and are factory stamped on all models
03) I don't know the exact mounting position for the aerials but I have a few photos of Broughams and Prems and they seem to be mounted inline with the rear gap of the boot
I'll try and find the photos I have and send them to you if you like
I have a switch and can send you a photo of that aswell There is a wiring diagram in the factory HT supplement book and im goin to follow that when I fit an electric aerial to the HT Brougham im restoring (one day)

Hi Dr Terry and brou308,

Thanks for the info. I am familiar with the wagon electric tailgate switches so I know what you are referring to. I just looked the wiring diagram in the workshop manual and can clearly see the electric aerial wiring - obviously semi automatic as brou308 suggests.

Having just gone through some ammeter issues I have spent a bit of time with my head under the dash and I noticed the factory stamp/mounting hole that is in front of the fuse box - I wondered what it was for, and now that has been explained.

A look at those photos would be great brou308.

I had one on my HG Premier on the rear it was up high like maybe 6 inch from where the white roof ends at the bottom of the window but on a Brougham I think it would be in line with the top of the boot lid edge but in the exact same spot distance from the window.

Hi castellan,

That's really interesting. A few people I have spoken to have said they were in line with the top bootlid gap, but I have also seen one which I am sure was factory fitted, that was much further down the slope of the guard. I think the aerial roughly aligned the fuel tank inlet.

I'm hoping my fastlane query relating to the aerials just trickles in a bit of information here and there so that I can get a better picture of what these aerials were, and how they were installed.
