Hi
My temp gauge reads full as soon as I turn the ign on,ive changed the water sensor 3 times to make sure it wasn't that,the last time it was a new one so my question, is the temp gauge adjustable? what else could it be?also the fuel gauge always reads full

Ok, Mr Cheese. It sounds like the earth is missing off the instrument cluster.
Check between the metal plate at the back of the cluster and the body for continuity. I can't remember where the actual connection for HK is, but try adding a temporary jumper wire between the cluster metal plate and the body.
By the way, for future reference your temperature sender is about 500 ohms to earth at 20 degrees C, and about 50 ohms at 100 degrees C.

Thanks for the tip,il check it during the week also the oil pressure gauge works perfectly,does this not need the earth strap?

the amp gauge is not working either,or the horn for that matter!bloody monaro!

One thing at a time. (and it's called an ammeter, just to be picky.) Here is the wiring arrangement for a HT GTS, which is similar to a HK. Try to check the highlighted earth connections. Fortunately hkprem is giving "standing on your head" lessons, if you feel the need for instruction. The oil pressure is a bit of a mystery. I'll have a think about that one. The horn could be related to an earth problem, but not the ammeter. Have you been playing with the electrical installation in a car that was working, or starting from scratch? There may be a few different gremlins at work.

Have you been playing with the electrical installation in a car that was working, or starting from scratch? There may be a few different gremlins at work.
these things have never worked in my ownership,the headlights wipers and indecators function properly however.Thanks for the diagram

Got the dash in pieces with a schematic diagram and a multimeter in hand and then dropped it off to the auto sparkys and grabbed a beer.

I fixed the horn in the vr by removing the steering wheel, there is a brass plug thing that the horn pad presses on, drilled a small hole in and iserted a brass drawing pin, just sits there, worked perfectly. what happens is the top of the brass plug wears and cannot make compact. I imagine the earlier models are similar.
