Have you tried calling Vicroads? They can be amazingly lifelike if you get the right person.

Problem is if it is like NSW it'll only have an engine number on the old rego papers. Vicroads or AOMC should be able to tell you by the engine number what its original chassis number was though. AHX08xxxS to AHX11xxxS or that ballpark anyway. And then track it down in WA by chassis number. |

I think Perry who had monaro.com.au is in WA. If he knows of it Ben probably would too though. |

I went through this with Vicroads recently. The report they generate gives you engine number, original registration number, "serial number" (which bears no relationship to any number on the car), VIN/Chassis number, place of first registration and usually the dealer, and subsequent registration numbers if done in Victoria. I believe the AOMC records are based on the same data from old Vicroads file cards, but does not information after about 1980. If you are lucky they may have information on registration change in WA. Hi, I remember pulling some stainless & a tri-light off an LE at a wrecker in a southern Perth suburb about the mid 80's. Sticks in my mind as LE's weren't my favortite, tho a source of the youngest coupe parts for my HQ. I was led out with my bag of tools & thought "theres nothing really wrong with this car" hadnt been touched yet, why wreck it? but cars were worth more as parts then. I did a FOI check on my LJ a while ago & WA's Dept of Transport's records only seem to go back to about mid 1984, you might be lucky. Can put their postal details up as they required a written application then, with your ID & the chassis + engine numbers. They might do it online now tho, dunno? J

Had a thought on the FOI check. If the vehicle is still about & registered, they probably wont release the info as your not the current owner. Might pay to check with them if you go this way as theres a 30 odd dollar charge for FOI checks. Contact is www.transport.wa.gov.au or (08)6551 6000 or 131156. J
