the 3.3 in my VK has suddenly started leaking like a sieve. have checked the bolts on the tappet cover, sideplates and sump, and new sump plug. It appears to be coming from above the sump and I notice there is oil in the EST distributor. is it likely that there is some connection there? thanks

A sudden massive oil leak is often the result of something causing the crankcase to pressurize.
Check your PCV valve in the rear of the rocker cover, and also check the filter in the side of the air cleaner (front rocker cover tube goes into it) to make sure both are clear & flowing - if they gum up, crankcase pressure will blow oil out everywhere it can - including up the dizzy.
When it's idling, take the oil cap off & see if there's pressure puffing out of the hole (hold your hand gently over it).
You could also have a more major fault like a broken ring, but eliminate all the easy things first. |

Thanks Mick. the pcv valve has plenty of vacuum, there is not much pressure blowing out of the oil oil cap hole, have to check the filter in side of the air cleaner. will publish the result tomorrow.
regards.
