Hi, Is there be a way to stop/turn off the cold air flow coming in to the car. (72 HQ Coupe)
When i move the control lever on the dash it either blows at my feet or out the dash vent. fine in summer not so good now. surly i have some parts missing.

If yours is a non factory AC car, what you've got is it.
As you're aware the control lever directs the air to your feet or the dash vent. For winter you direct the air to the vent, then rotate the the vent so that it blocks the airflow.

The vents did have a sealing strip on them, probably long gone by now. Another problem was the vents used to loosen so that they wouldn't stay in the same postion.

Sounds like either could be your problem.

Just to clarify that. If we are talking about a non-factory a/con car, the 'control levers' on the heater panel do not effect the face vents at all. The 2 outer floor vents are controlled by the push/pull cables in the upper dash, next to the control control knob. When these knobs are pushed home, the floor vents are then fully closed & more fresh air is forced out the 2 dash vents. As Premier has said, the only thing that stops fresh air entry via the 2 outer dash vents is the foam around the the vent vanes. Go to Clark rubber (or similar) & get some suitable replacement foam.

The 2 'control levers' on the heater panel control the air coming out of either the centre floor vent or the demister outlets. The upper lever has 3 positions: OFF, FLOOR & SCREEN. If you are still getting fresh air entry with this lever is the off position, you will need to remove & dismantle the heater box. Again it will be caused by foam which has deteriorated with age & will need replacing.

My car has the factory air con dash 3 vents but the rest of the system is not in the car. It was the push pull cables i was referring to.
The heater works fine with air being directed out the center or the demister vents.
So what stops the air flow on a factory air con car?

The push/cables are not present in a factory a/con car. There is a blanking off plate fitted over the RH floor inlet & the LH floor inlet is used as the intake for the a/con system & is vacuum actuated.

To my knowledge when the a/con mode lever is in the OFF position, the recirc flap is in the position where fresh air is totally shut off in the LH intake duct.

Thanks, that makes sense now, found an exploded diagram of the ac ducting etc.

Are the push cable holes/mounts on the dash just left empty an A/C car, and what about the 3rd one for the choke cable (have auto choke) or should there be some from of blanking plug/cap?

Because of where they are located, it is not noticed if they are missing.

If you have a 6-cyl with no a/con, them all 3 knobs are present.

Auto choke, then there is no choke knob. Factory a/con, then the other 2 disappear.

The odd one out is, if you have a 6-cyl with factory a/con, then you get a choke knob but no vent knobs.

If you own a V8 with factory a/con, then there are no knobs.
