Paech, thats exactly what we did at North Pine Motors when I was an apprentice there in 78-82. We used a scrap axle down the guts of the spring when compressing it.
Hadn't thought about it in years.
Attn camry drivers. The accelerator is the skinny pedal on the right.

SUCCESS!!! Thanks to the combination of input from above - had a moment of inspiration Friday walking through our warehouse at work and saw some guys using the steel-band rachet and crimp pallet packing strapping. Compressed the coil spring out of the car using a cheap ($50) compressor, then put four or five straps around the spring to hold it. Put it in the car, bit of steel-cap boot fitting as well I jacked it up, then cut the strapping with tin snips. I'll send some photos when I work out how to past them in here.

Thanks again, all.

It looks like an exercise in bomb disposal with all that stored energy, but well done!

I'm not saying I wasn't nervous as hell, but gained confidence when I noticed as I ratcheted up one of the steel bands, it actually pulled the spring in even further than the cheap compressor - I had straps on there before removing the compressor, so was reasonably confident. That being said, I had a friend with me to ice-bag the finger if I lost one, wore super heavy gloves and "kept it pointing away from me" as much as possible. Bit of a twang when I cut the banding, but it was in place with the ball joints done up at that stage, so I knew it wasn't going anywhere

And I mentioned the bloke I knew who compressed them with a front end loader and tied them up with wire earlier...
Still vote that you can get them in with a trolley jack. Well I know you can.
Anyway good to see you got them in.
