Hi
I have a Vh commodore that has about 550hp at the wheels a 9inch diff with mini spools and 28 spline axles. I broke an axle and I would like to upgrade my axles. I have the following questions as I want to put in billet axles.
1. Do I put in 31 or 35 spline axle and how much do they cost.
2. Can I keep my current diff and change the diff centre and put in a true track system. How much will that cost
3. I have been told that with my current set up that I cant put in a 35 spline as it will require cutting and new brake set up?
4. I have been quoted $1050 for chrome molly billet 4340 axles and $2250 for a new sportsman's diff with true track and nodular steel. Is this a good price and will it suit my set up. This price include new centre and ratios etc?
5. Finances are limited so I am after best options.

Thanks

Andy

Flick the spool, they're a crock of of s***. Will invariably break axles due to the wind up when popping around a slow corner....it's metal fatigue. Trutrac, great bit of kit. Axle spline number shouldn't vary cost too much, 28 or 31 will work. Price? Speak to a reputable diff builder. Want good quality? Spend money. Scrimp & save, stick to a s*** spool & keep replacing axles.

I would be wary of fitting superstrong axles. when I was running landies they had 3 grades of axles available, standard, special and super (my words). the standards broke pretty easily, the specials were more long lasting, the super would not break but the diffs would break, a lot more expensive and difficult to replace a diff than to replace an axle.

Thumbs up to a TruTrac, I have one in my VY ute (daily driver) and couldn't be happier; user friendly when doing U-turns yet good traction when needed.
