Hey all, ive been having a weird problem with my XC 4.1. It has an intermittent problem with really rough idling and backfiring under decelleration/no load. It is fine under hard acceleration tho. I have tried absolutely everything i can think of to fix this problem. Plug leads, new fuel pump, new needle and seat valve, checked carbie bowl level, cleaned out idle mixture screw and adjusted, replaced points/fixed timing.. everything seems perfect. The problem will be terrible for a few days and then come good again for a while. can't work this one out but its bugging the hell outta me. any other ideas on what i can do would be GREATLY appreciated. thanks heaps guys Cheers, Brett

Hi Brett,
I had similiar trouble with my XC and it was caused by me running my petrol tank absolutely dry before re-filling her. This caused sediment to be picked up from the petrol tank and it blocked the inline petrol filter from the tank to the f

It's a long shot but it sounds like you've tried all the usual causes. I would normally expect a leaking manifold gasket to be a problem under acceleration as well, anyway it's just a suggestion.

Second that motion, intake manifold gasket is a great cause of vaccum leaks. While you are replacing that do yourself a favour and if you have stromberg pick up weber from an XE falcon, fantastic carbi's and well tuned should be worth about 20hp, NB throw
